The fashion industry is not helping those of us trying to advance the bow tie cause. Fashionistas know it is not in their best interest financially for gentlemen to suddenly embrace the bow tie culture and switch away from long ties. However, as fashions change; eye sockets do not. While dress slacks look best when the waste and length fit best. Bow ties too, must fit one’s face. Remember Bozo the circus clown? He was always depicted as wearing a very large red bow tie so people would laugh at him!
We can only spread the word that bow ties are more comfortable, stylish, and practical while less expensive. They never get in the way and are far less likely to be ruined and replaced due to mealtime accidents or inadvertent sneezing mishaps.
It takes time to change generations of conformity, social conditioning, and fashion industry indoctrination. It’s difficult to educate anyone unmotivated to learn and resistant to change. We, however, are up to the challenge. We are aware the longest journey begins with a single Bow Tie Bible.
One thing might accelerate the transition—if a gentleman experiences the feeling of adoration proffered by a comely, bright woman when genuinely complimenting him on the way he looks in a bow tie! Of course, this requires that this gentleman understands there is a right way and wrong way to do anything. This is especially so considering the afore-mentioned negative stereotypes.
